Tour de Class 704...Classroom Reveal!

I'm still in denial that school is starting tomorrow! I am teaching at a new school this year which is exciting and terrifying at the same time! We have a closed campus on the weekends or else I'd be there right now! I am not 100% done decorating so some boards are still a work in progress.

FIRST door sign with a room number EVER!!! So excited :)

The "before"....

This is what my room looked like when I first got my keys! I was SO excited for all the equipment I got.  I have a Smartboard! Now it's just time to learn how to use it....minor detail ;)

I took a picture of this in my classroom but it didn't come out because of the glare so this was taken at my Moms house.  This is the Welcome sign from my Puppy Theme Decor Pack. Got to love the little bones!

This is my teacher desk with my burlap Fourth Grade banner! I found burlap ribbon at Walmart which made the perfect matching border! Go UC Davis!!!

My Math Talk board! I have resources up now but once the kids start to share their own strategies, I will hang those up! I always love to put as much student work up as possible.  Our district provided these amazing posters for us!

Social Studies and Science boards...plain now but student work to come!

My favorite part of teaching Fourth grade is the state history! California has a fascinating history that is so fun to teach about.  The best part is that there are so many historical missions and ranchos around us, making for great field trips!

The puppy theme continues!!! This is my Language Arts board with my library underneath. Again, this is another great place to hang student work.

This is my slowly growing library with my Puppy Theme Decor Pack labels! Our school uses the AR program so I need to relabel my books. I'm not very familiar with the program so it's on my list of things to learn!

This is my classroom jobs, calendar, birthday, and student file area! I still need to hang my clock! These classroom jobs can be found in my Classroom Jobs pack on TPT. On the first day of school, I take their picture, print, and cut out to glue on the top of the popsicle sticks.  I change their classroom jobs at the end of every week.

I am SO EXCITED to try out Boggle Math from The Teacher Studio! I am going to put two different activities in the folders to the left.  I will rotate out one activity every week so there is always something new to try! This is going to be great for early finishers and math centers.

I have not one but two giant rolling storage closets! They are great for storage but take up a lot of room so I've had to tape things to the front.  My fourth grade team is using these GROUPS an SLANT posters during the first week of school when introducing collaboration time. We'll see how it goes! It's always nice for the students to have a visual reminder to stay on task.

It's still a bit cluttered over here but I will use this area for my small group time. It's always been my dream to have a kidney table in my classroom.  Feeling so blessed! It's the simple things in life... :)

This is my initial set-up for group rotations.  I bought little calendar circles from Lakeshore, laminated them, put a magnet on, and voila I have movable student numbers! I'm just thrilled to have a whiteboard that's magnetic! All my Beagle magnets are hiding behind the Smartboard :)

Puppy lunch card holder! I found these little bones on sale but they would be really easy to cut on the Cricket.

Final view of the back!

After two weeks of setting up and planning, I realized on Friday at 4 that I have not one sharpened pencil in my classroom! I guess I know what my #1 to do is for Monday morning!!

My room is always changing so more pictures to come throughout the year! Thanks for stopping by :) Happy First Week of school everyone!

10 Followers and the Target curse!

I reached 10 followers today! Whooohooo...that counts as a milestone right?

How is it that every time I go to Target I can't leave without spending $50? It's like the Target curse! There are just so many amazing things that are always calling my name.  The dollar bin section is a teacher's dream! I found these tiny calendars the last time I was there.  I instantly knew these could come in handy one day! As I walked through Target, all these teaching ideas came to mind!

I laminated each picture so they will last for awhile.  I am going to use these to teach about using your senses, feelings, and descriptive language in writing.  I will have my students brainstorm words that describe their individual pictures. There are enough pictures for each student to have their own, rotate them, and do it again! I've also done a similar writing activity using postcards I've collected from my travels.

Check out my writing minilesson product here:

Meet the Teacher Linky Party!

Hi blogger friends! I haven't blogged in awhile; it's been so crazy getting my classroom set up for the new school year.  I feel like I've really made it as a teacher...finally...after 4 years...I got a classroom with a kidney table!!!! You have no idea how exciting this is.  I've taught in closets the last 4 years...literally closets with no windows.  It's a big year folks!!!

I have been reading all the fun Meet the Teacher link-ups over at Falling Into First so I decided it's my turn.  Here is goes....

My name is Katie and I'm a 27 year old 4th grade teacher, newbie blogger, daughter, sister, girlfriend, and doggie Mom. I finally have a new classroom at a traditional public school.  This is my third year in fourth grade and before that I taught Kindergarten and first grade.

I've been with my boyfriend for 4 years and he brings a smile to my face every day! He is my best friend :) We have a fur child together... Diego the beagle puppy! He's the best dog ever and has completely changed our world!

This summer has been filled with lots of travels, naps, beach trips, blog stalking, and dog playing! It's been a loooonnng summer and I am really looking forward to getting back into the routine of school.

THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS...

Puppies. Flowers. The beach. Sunshine. Polka dots. Crafts. Shopping. Clothes. Shoes. Scuba diving. Painting. Did I say Puppies? Photography. Target. Cold water. Nordstroms. Smiley faces. Blogging!

IF YOU WEREN'T A TEACHER, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE?

I always thought I would end up being a doctor or nurse.  I am really good with blood and guts and I'm a people person.  But then I realized I had to take years of chemistry in college and BAM I decided teaching was for me! It's funny how things work out because I couldn't see myself doing anything else. Teaching has become my true passion and I feel so lucky to have a job I love.

THREE LITTLE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU.

Real. Compassionate. Focused.

FINISH THE SENTENCE, "________,  SAID NO TEACHER EVER!!"

"I really want to check crazy parent emails at 1am, SAID NO TEACHER EVER!!!"
Q: IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY AND YOU CAN INVITE ANYONE {DEAD OR ALIVE} TO THE PARTY. WHO ARE YOU INVITING?

SkippyJon Jones. I think he would have some great party convos!

Q: IF SOMEONE WROTE A BOOK ABOUT YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD BE THE TITLE?

Teacher By Day, Crazy Dog Person By Night

Q:YOU GET TO PICK ONE SUPERPOWER. WHAT IS IT?
I want to be able to be invisible.  Have you ever wished you were that fly on the wall?

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYING?

"The greatest thing in life is to love and be loved in return."
Q: IF YOU HAD TO SING ONE SONG ON AMERICAN IDOL, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Shout out to my bestie Erin....

"Affirmation" by Savage Garden

Oh yeah! I'm a 90s kid :)

Q: ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON OR A NIGHT OWL?

Neither!...is that a choice? I truly need 8+ hours of sleep a night or I can't function so that makes me a... Day Person?!

Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE RESOURCE THAT YOU'VE CREATED IN YOUR TPT SHOP?

I'm just starting out on the TPT train so I don't have very much in my store YET. I spent a long time created my Puppy Classroom Decor Pack so that's probably what I'm most proud of.

Q: SHARE SOMETHING WE MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU!

I LOVE to cook!!! Before I started a teaching blog, I attempted to start a cooking blog.  I got a Kitchen Aid mixer for Christmas a few years back and it's my best friend.  I love to bake, experiment with spices, and make savory dinners for the BF! This is a Key Lime Pie I made this summer.  It turned out YUMMMY :)

August currently already... Are you sure?

I can't believe it's already time for the August Currently over at Oh' Boy 4th Grade. This summer has flown by so quickly.  How does that happen?

Listening: I'm visiting Seattle right now and I just can't get over how many people are here! It's packed full of tourists...always makes for entertaining people watching.

Loving: I have been going through my pictures from the summer and each one brings a smile to my face.  From Catalina scuba diving, to Whiskeytown Lake with family, and exploring in Seattle, I've got a lot of fabulous new memories.

Thinking: I've been out of my house for 2 weeks now.  I went to check on it last week and oh boy is it a mess...and of course no workers were there! I'm hoping to get back in before school starts.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Wanting: I'm so excited to share ideas with new teachers! This is one of the best parts of being a teacher :)

Needing: I totally splurged and ordered an Erin Condren planner.  Somehow I justified it in my mind and went for it.  I can't wait!!! If you know me...you know how much I LOVE paper and fun decorations.

Five for Friday (8/1)

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday!

I'm still waiting anxiously to see my new classroom, meet the other 4th grade teachers, and to start planning! I'm patiently (okay not really) waiting for my Erin Condren planner in the mail.  I hope it comes in time!!! For the first time in awhile, I'm kind of excited for school to start!

At the beginning of the week, we went to Petco Park's (where the Padres play) Dog Days of Summer event with Diego.  We got a bazillion free dog treat samples (yay for free things!), got to walk on the field, and got 2 free tickets to watch the game! Diego was super overwhelmed but he loved watching the game....and eating some peanuts :)

Later this week, the boy and I flew to Seattle for the weekend.  We are going to a wedding about an hour outside the city, so we decided to come early and be the ultimate tourists! I've never been to Seattle so it's been fun exploring.  We did Pike's Place yesterday! Dinner at the Space Needle tonight!

While we are gone, we had to leave the pup at doggie camp.  The camp has cameras set up so you can watch your dog while you're gone.  Yes...we are those crazy dog people...and proud of it!

Can you find Diego?

This week I've been working on printing and laminating my Puppy Theme Decor Pack! I can't wait to decorate my room with all the new doggie decorations I've created.  More pictures and details to come soon!

Book buckets are ready to go! How do you organize your classroom library? By genre? By reading level?

I recently discovered Mod Podge!!! I realize I am a bit behind the times with this one but that doesn't discount how excited I am about this new discovery! I got the paper version and the regular version.  I also found these cute red containers at Michaels.  What should I fill them with????

Even though school doesn't start for about 3 weeks, I am starting to think about what I am doing the first week of school.  One of my favorite projects is this Apple Art.  The students get to divide their apple into large sections.  In each section they have to draw symbols or small pictures that represent them.  They outline in crayon, water color over the crayon, cut out the apple, mount on fun paper, and voila...beautiful and individualized art project! This is not the best example I have; it just happen to be on my phone. They usually come out amazing and are so colorful on the wall.  I keep their art all year in their portfolios.  The students love to rediscover this piece at the end of the year! They are always very proud of it.

Well that's it for my first Five for Friday!
